Gold - many shades and concentrations
It has been customary to express the gold content of gold alloys in carats, which expresses the gold content as a percentage. Pure gold or fine gold (999 or 99.9%) has a carat content of 24K, so that one carat is about 4.16%. This means that an 18K gold alloy contains 75% gold (18 x 4.16) and a 14K gold alloy contains 58.5% gold (14 x 4.16).
The introduction of 9K (375) gold as part of the Festive collection has further expanded the material options available. All our rings are available in 18K and 14K gold or higher. Of these, 14K (585) is a harder and lighter alloy, while 18K (750) is heavier and more elastic. The higher the gold content in the alloy, the stronger the yellow tone of the gold in the final result!
In addition to the gold content, you can also choose the final shade of the gold alloyed. The most traditional and recognisable shade of gold is the classic yellow gold, which stays on the shade chart year after year without being outdone by more recent alternatives. The use of yellow gold in jewellery adds a precious, warm touch.
The white gold jewellery in the Festive collection has a very strong foothold and the gold used is alloyed with palladium. Despite its name, the colour of white gold is more greyish than white and there is also a hint of warm gold in the alloy. To brighten the hue, rhodium plating is used, which gives the white gold jewellery a high-gloss, cold-toned finish. The coating can be renewed as needed, which usually occurs after about a year or two of regular use. A rhodium-plated white gold ring is an elegant and modern choice, the whiteness of which highlights the brilliance of the diamonds.
Red gold, a contrasting shade of gold alloyed with copper, has seen a strong rise in popularity as a wedding ring material and the red alloy is often referred to as rose gold or, more romantically, rose gold.
